Sunward Ranks #1 Among New Mexico Credit Unions
Sunward has been recognized again as one of Forbes’ Best-in-State Credit Unions. Sunward ranked as the #1 credit union in New Mexico for the second year in a row, according to the 2020 list. Overall, just 3.5% of the total number of U.S. credit unions made the cut.
Our members put us here. To create the list, Forbes asked more than 25,000 U.S. credit union members about their banking relationships. Ratings were based on their overall recommendations and satisfaction, as well as their feelings about trust, terms and conditions, branch services, digital services, and financial advice. Sunward outranked all other credit unions in the state on the all-important characteristic of trust.
“It’s gratifying to once again be at the top of Forbes’ list for the state, because it’s our members who are doing the talking,” said Robert Chavez, Sunward’s president and CEO. “They recognize that we are here for them,” he noted, adding that “In 2020, many of our members are facing challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sunward is responding with additional support in the form of relief loans, loan extensions, ‘skip a payment’ options, credit limit increases, and waived penalties for early term certificate withdrawals.”
Additionally, when many of Sunward’s business members needed help the most in recent months, Sunward’s lending team worked almost non-stop to help them apply for relief funds through the Small Business Association’s Paycheck Protection Program. To date, Sunward business members have received $14 million in funding through the program.
Sunward was also named as a finalist in Albuquerque Business First’s list of Best Places to Work 2020.
